The neo-classicist "Palacio Legislativo" building was inaugurated on 25th August 1925 to mark the country’s 100th year of independence from Brazil, and is the largest building in Uruguay. Italian architect Victor Meano submitted the original design. After his death in 1904, Varela and Banchini continued his work. Italian architect Moretti designed the interior of the building.
